TheNextWeb did an interesting interview with Aza Raskin about great User Interfaces.
Watch the video below.
Some notes
- Looking how people use the product is the most important thing for a designer to do
- Minimize the number of interactions a user have to make with a product
- An idea is worthless unless it can be communicated
- To the user, the interface is the product
- Don't just comply to the visual aesthetics but to the cognetics
- Have empathy, speak people's language
- To move people, build the beginning (show how to do it) and the endpoint
More notes
- Ergonomics: the study of the human body
- Cognetics: the ergonomics of the mind
- Short term memory: able to remember 7 +- 2 things
- Locus of attention is singular: we can't think about two things at the same time
Quote
“The society that separates its warriors from its scholars, is a society doomed to fail.” - Thucydides
If you do your idiots do your fighting and you cowards do your thinking.
