TheNextWeb did an interesting interview with Aza Raskin about great User Interfaces.

Watch the video below.

Some notes

  • Looking how people use the product is the most important thing for a designer to do
  • Minimize the number of interactions a user have to make with a product
  • An idea is worthless unless it can be communicated
  • To the user, the interface is the product
  • Don't just comply to the visual aesthetics but to the cognetics
  • Have empathy, speak people's language
  • To move people, build the beginning (show how to do it) and the endpoint

More notes

  • Ergonomics: the study of the human body
  • Cognetics: the ergonomics of the mind
  • Short term memory: able to remember 7 +- 2 things
  • Locus of attention is singular: we can't think about two things at the same time

Quote

“The society that separates its warriors from its scholars, is a society doomed to fail.” - Thucydides

If you do your idiots do your fighting and you cowards do your thinking.
